COVID Pandemic Work
Since the pandemic of Covid 19 began, Prayag Hospital has been in continuous service.
During 2020, PMC assessed the Hospital for inclusion as a Covid center and directed
that Prayag Hospital should serve as a backbone for Non Covid facilities and will
be roped in if the wave is big enough. Hence it continues to function as a Non Covid
Hospital serving continuously during the lockdown from March 2020 onwards.
The second wave of the pandemic in 2021 was very huge and hence, in response to
request from the PMC, the Hospital was voluntarily converted into a Covid facility
from April 2021. During the second wave and subsequent mild third wave in January,
February 2022, the hospital continued to function seamlessly despite the staff suffering
from the outbreak and despite the logistic difficulties. During these waves, more
than 1000 outdoor and 300 indoor patients were treated for Covid [45 being critically
ill].
The hospital also acted as an important vaccination center in April 2021 until the
supply of vaccines ran out.
